help of television network. Urban and rural people have changed their attitudes towards social,
economic and political matters due to their exposure to this powerful medium. The mass media
has created demand for goods and services in rural areas. Smart marketers are employing the mix
of conventional and non-conventional media to create demand for their products. The growth of
satellite TV channels and cable TVs has had a major impact on rural consumers. It has led to
change in lifestyles. Consumption of non food items has increased. Since the accessibility to
television is high compared to other media, rural consumers now aspire to buy well known,
popular brands rather than we purchase commodities.

For flourishing of any business and service advertisement is the most essential
part of the marketing strategy. Best product and excellent service can also prove to be meager
devoid of ads. Besides the traditional vehicles, Mass media including Newspapers, Magazines,
Television, Radio, internet based new media and the digital media are used for carrying the ads as
per the requirement in India. It was felt necessary by the researcher to know more as to what stuff
in the ad makes it attractive and compel the audiences/ consumers to buy a particular product or
avail a specific service even today in 2017? Thus researcher chose to study one of the most
important aspect of the ads i.e. Slogans of the advertisers as they form the most important part of
any ad. To know the communication through slogans/ Taglines, its creativity and the role, the
topic was formulated.
It is necessary for the advertisers and the ad. agency to know the importance of slogans so
as to make their product/ service grab the attention of the people. Similarly the consumers also
remember the product or service due to the catchy Slogans. It was found that the Slogans play
important part in creating the image of the product or service and increase the business. It was
also found during the research that making catchy slogans requires special skills and is not a job
of a layman. It was also found that some taglines are so much effective that the audiences
remember them but forget the product or service for which they were made. Yet they play most
important part in the ads. Many ads make their claims in the form of Slogans. A survey to find the
views about the slogans and their impacts showed that it is not possible to think of advertisement
without any catchy slogan and that ads without creative slogans fail to do effective business.
Various respondents gave different views about the Slogan they liked. It range from the domestic
product to FMG, toothpaste, electronics, automobiles, edibles etc. Many opined that few slogans
are emotionally attached with them while others remind them of quality and reasonable price.
Thus it was found that Slogans are the most important part of the advertisements may they be
presented on any media from print, electronic, digital to traditional and folk.

IMPORTANCE OF INSURANCE SERVICE IN SELF HELP OF GROUPS IN OUR INDIA
Dr. Dheeraj Negi And Mr. Deepak Birla
DOI : 10.5281/amierj.6913274
Abstract
Certificate
The study is designed to evaluate the marketing strategies in life insurance service sector & how
these strategies boost sales & marketability of a product which ultimately lead to customer
satisfaction. The insurance scenario faces multiple challenges such as increased costs of
operation, regulatory pressures, and inflexible technology infrastructure. These pressures are
compounded by low to moderate premium growth & the increasing burdens of regulatory
compliance. Keeping all the above problems around the study would attempt to study all the
factors that contributed to the effective marketing strategies. This paper presents different
marketing strategies that are taken up in life insurance services keeping in view external and
internal environment of the firm. Marketing strategy is the basic approach that the business units
will use to achieve its objectives, and it consists of broad decisions on target markets, market
positioning and mix, and marketing expenditure levels. As the financial services sector has
become more competitive, financial institutions need to consider ,ways of developing relationships
with their existing customers in order to defend their market share. Strategic dimension of
marketing should focus on the direction that an organization would take in relation to a specific
market or set of markets in order to achieve a specified set of objectives. Every insurer must
recognize that its "strategic posture" depends partly on the competitive environment, partly on its
allocation of marketing resources. An insurance firm strategy is a plan for action that determines
how an insurer can best achieve its goals and objectives in the light of the existing pressures
exerted by competition, on the one hand, and its limited resources on the other hand. A wellperforming
life insurance industry benefits consumers, producers and insurance firm
stockholders alike. Unfavourable market conditions stress the need for life insurers to perform
well in order to remain solvent. Using a unique supervisory data set, this paper investigates
competition and efficiency in the Dutch life insurance market by estimating unused scale
economies and measuring efficiency-market share dynamics during 1995-2010. Large unused
scale economies exist for small and medium-sized life insurers, indicating that further
consolidation would reduce costs. Over time average scale economies decrease but substantial
differences between small and large insurers remain. A direct measure of competition confirms
that competitive pressures are at a lower level than in other markets. We do not observe any
impact of increased competition from banks, the so-called investment policy crisis or the credit
crisis, apart from lower returns in 2008. Investigation of product submarkets reveals that
competition is higher on the collective policy market, while the opposite is true for the unit-linked
market, where the role of intermediary agents is largest

Abstract

Transport, thus is an important infrastructure in the economy of India. It assumes a
greater role in developing countries since all the sectors of the development are closely dependent
upon the existence of suitable transportation network. The history of rail transport in India began
in the mid-nineteenth century. In 1842, there was not a single kilometer of railway line in India.
At that point of time, the railways represented a capital value of some British Sterling Pounds 687
million, and carried over 620 million passengers and approximately 90 million tons of goods a
year. The railways in India were a group of privately owned companies. The military engineers of
the East India Company, later of the British Indian Army, contributed to the birth and growth of
the railways which gradually became the responsibility of civilian technocrats and engineers.
However, construction and operation of rail transportation in the North West Frontier Province
and in foreign nations during war or for military purposes was the responsibility of the military
engineers. In 1901, an early Railway Board was constituted, but the powers were formally
invested under Lord Curzon. It served under the Department of Commerce and Industry and had
a government railway official serving as chairman, and a railway manager from England and an
agent of one of the company railways as the other two members. For the first time in its history,
the Railways began to make a profit. In 1907, almost all the rail companies were taken over by the
government.

ASSET LIABILITY MANAGEMENT IN CO-OPERATIVE BANKS
R. Sathya and R. Anitha
DOI : 10.5281/amierj.6913385
Abstract
Certificate
The inflow outflow of deposits i.e., liability and inflow of loans and investments i.e., assets
has its own pattern. Basically deposit maturity patterns and loan maturity pattern are different back
in time as per commitment. So outflow of liability is assured. But there is no such reliable assurance
for asset incoming. Though the borrower has made commitment to pay back at certain time, the
commitment may not be followed. Premature withdrawal is one more factor. All this crates
mismatches between asset and liability. Mismatch beyond certain point may create problems of
liquidity. Therefore ALM is very important.

DEMOCRATIC SPIRIT IN WHITMAN’S POETRYC
Dr. Prakash. N. Meshram
DOI : 10.5281/amierj.6913410
Abstract
Certificate
Among poets, Walt Whitman, the poet-prophet is undoubtedly the greatest champion of
democracy. Many of English romantic poets were staunch supporter of democracy but Whitman’s
approach to democracy was much more vivid and realistic. Whitman uses “I” refer not only to
himself, but to a larger “I” that includes the reader and humanity in general. According to him the
grass is the great symbol of democracy in nature and it is by lying on it and observing it that the poet
sings. The grass grows in all places. It grows among the black as well as the white, in broad as well
as narrow zones. This is very suggestive of the democratic spirit which the poet always emphasizes.
The democratic poet does not celebrate an individual hero. Nor does he celebrate himself. The ‘I’ in
Whitman’s poem has never been so much a personal references but it is a fusion of several
characters, a composite character, who are not existing in any place other than in the poem. Whitman
has a sense of identity with man. He has a sense of identity with all living creatures. This sense of
“oneness of all” makes his democracy universal and pantheistic. The poet has pity for older nations
of Europe and Asia. He is proud of his American nationality. The American nation visualized as the
leader of humanity, is the true hero of his poetry. However, Whitman’s democracy is spiritual. In,
Whitman’s Introduction to Leaves of Grass, (page. 5 of 1855 edition) he writes: “The Americans of
all nations at any time upon the earth have probably the fullest poetical nature. The poet expresses
the very spirit of attachment of the Americans to freedom. He visualized democratic America and its
people expressing the spirit of democratic America just as the epics of Homer and Virgil express the
spirit of their ancient Greece and Rome. This paper attempts to explore the democratic undercurrent
in Whitman’s Poetry.
