Abstract

Sustainable development goals are a set of goals formulated by UN, so as to ensure a sustainable future for the generations to come. It comprises of 17 interconnected goals that must be addressed to achieve the goal of sustainability. One of the goals is to achieve gender equality across the globe. The first step to achieve equality is education. Girls’ education has a specific significance for any society. Educated girls are better in terms of health and general awareness. As today’s girls are the mothers of tomorrow, their increased awareness about life can help in bringing up a healthier and better generation. Educated mothers will be able to direct their children the right way thereby reducing crime rates and violence in the society. Education is the only force that can empower women both in the family as well as in the society. Ban Ki Moon, the former secretary general of UN opined that education of a girl is the best investment that a country can make. This paper specifically examines the challenges of girl’s education in India. In India, access to education is a big problem for women especially from rural India. There is a huge difference in the male literacy rates and female literacy rates in many states especially the BIMARU states. The paper tries to analyse the various obstacles that come across education of girls and the ways to overcome those obstacles

“A Feminist is anyone who recognizes the equality and full of humanity of women and men”
Feminism has been a part of our life since the 18th century, either directly or indirectly. Women have always faced issues of
inequality and dominance for a very long time. And this inequality and injustice led to Feminist movements. We had the first
wave of feminism during the 18th century after which we had the second and the third waves. We are currently witnessing the
fourth wave. Each wave had different issues which were tackled. But in the modern days feminism has gotten a bad name,
which can attributed because of various reasons such as the unawareness of the term feminism and what it actually stands
for. In our research paper we have looked into the idea that whether people are aware about the term feminism in its correct
definition or there is a different idea and what can be done to promote feminism in a positive way.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is one of the important responsibilities of any business establishment to go beyond statutory compliances and focus on contributing to a better society through its multi-various activities. Gender equality and empowering women and girls is one of the crucial steps towards achieving Goal 5 of the Sustainable Development Goals. Achievement of this goal will lead to the development of a progressive nation which would further lead to global peace and evolution of a sustainable world. Two areas that are specified in the Companies Act, 2013 which provides the guidelines to CSR activities in India are that of Education and Skill development. Abstract

The Merriam Webster defines leadership as- “the capacity to lead.”A good leader should inspire and bring out the best in
the individuals led by them. Gender and leadership roles in today’s time are often viewed from male and or female gender.
However, there are inspiring examples of individuals of transgender which are undervalued or are obscure to the masses.
We conducted a quantitative survey amongst college students aged between 20-30 years old.Through the survey it was found
that people are aware of the male and female leaders but not the leaders from transgender section of the society. In order to
bring equality and equity among not only the male and female genders but also the transgender, an awareness of the leaders
and their inspiring stories needs to be popularized. This paper therefore highlights the awareness level of the society
regarding gender and leadership roles and states briefly about one story of leadership from all the three genders.

Abstract

Gender discrimination is the worst thing can happen to a human and their constitutional right to attain mankind. The agenda of achieving 100 percent literacy is not possible without the inclusion of females, queers and transgender people. Toxic masculinity puts challenges and obstacles to the advancement of these groups because it can create struggles in their existence and they can feel the centuries of prejudice which is intolerable. After decades of uproar and multiple researches, the injustice that was persisting for females and the LGBT community has certainly been reduced by specific policies and laws that have taken shape on a global level, but there is a long way to go…
Education and educational mediums are the tools to sensitize people. Teachers, while transacting pedagogical content, can create a conducive and inclusive culture for a better future. Equity and equality, social justice, etc. topics can create respect, empathy and acceptance for others. Several education policies, acts, framework are working to stimulate the process of enrolment, retention and jobs with certain reservations. UNESCO is working to bridge the gap of rural areas and urban areas, aboriginal strata where discrimination is prevalent, tribals, physically and mentally challenged people and other underprivileged humans. The Goverment can formulate policies and laws to enforce the equal treatment but unless society and people will start practice it, this dream will never become a reality.

“Gender equality is the unfinished business of the 21st century”-Elizabeth Broderick Gender equality has been an issue all over the world from ancient times. Since ages, women, in society, have not been treated at par with the males and gender inequality has been existing. Since the few years, there has been a great emphasis on treating all human being equal irrespective of their gender. We are in the 21st century and we are still talking, discussing and finding solution for gender discrimination, gender inequality etc. This is a worldwide subject that seems to get “better” as the years go by but unfortunately it doesn’t seem to have an end. Our spiritual beliefs consider women as deities on one hand and yet society fails to identify her as a human being first on the other. The search of equality between genders is fuelling a never-ending war between women and men.

EDUCATION – THE LIBERATING FORCE FOR GIRLS AND WOMEN
Ms. Sheetal & Dr. Priya Mathew
DOI : 10.5281/amierj.6945688
Abstract
Certificate
Education is equated to the vigorous force that redeems the oppressed from the enslavement and injustice. Bringing about a change in the status of women has always been on the radar screen. The education of girls and women is not noteworthy when it is considered by merely neglecting the root causes that have led to classifying women as the weaker section of the society. Education, with its multidimensional approaches and functions, is capable of uplifting the female human beings from the lower state but education becomes worthwhile only when it succeeds in setting free the girls and women folk from the oppressions. The liberation emphasised here is the development of the critical consciousness that allows the oppressor to question and oppose the ill-treatment. Education is the most effective in building such consciousness. The heart of the paper is the proclamation of education as the significant instrument for changing subjugated position through the intent of liberating girls and women

The Developmental Assets are 40 research-based, positive qualities that influence young people’s development, helping them become caring, responsible, and productive adults The framework has been adapted to be developmentally relevant from early childhood through adolescence.
Gender Socialisation is still a challenge in most of the schools and colleges. The influence of family, religion, society , culture has a great impact on the child’s development. It can be either positive or negative depending on the exposure and impact of different forces on the child. School and teachers need to intervene and take the onus of positive gender socialization and overcome the prejudices if any. This will definitely lead to an empowered child.

Abstract

Gender equality, also known as sexual equality or equality of the sexes, is the state of equal ease of access to resources and opportunities regardless of gender, including economic participation and decision-making; and the state of valuing different behaviors, aspirations and needs equally, regardless of gender. In many empirical and theoretical studies, female to male ratio of education is used as the measure of gender equality that is hypothesized to have an impact on economic growth and development. In this paper includes supporting startegies to enhance gender equality in the classroom. Also it discusses how to create a more equal and balanced learning environment. An educated individual is more likely to grow up healthy and have more opportunities for employment. This increases their chance of raising healthy children, and supporting them to also get an education. When all students, both male and female, have equal access to educational opportunities, the results impact future generations

CLASSROOM AND GENDER – IMPLICATIONS FOR THE EDUCATOR
Ms. Sheetal Zalte
DOI : 10.5281/amierj.6945725
Abstract
Certificate
Gender as a term is widely used to describe the difference between the social role and personal identity of the female/male
biological sexes. One’s image, behavior, and speech are all factors that help form a representation and gender identity.
Unfortunately, Gender at times is viewed in a biased way resulting in oversimplification and unproductive generalizations
which could be misleading. Various research studies suggest that gender of the teacher affects the achievement of the students in particular subject and shapes the communication between teachers and students. In case of male teacher the achievement of the girl students is affected and vice a versa. The career choices girls and boys make as well as their attitude also depends on the gender they represent. Therefore as educators, we have to remember that whichever gender we may represent we must take into consideration the needs of other gender and try to facilitate the achievement of both the genders. While teaching in the class we must be gender-sensitive and behave accordingly so that students from both the gender can confide in us. This will be imperative to sustainable development of society which is gender neutral.

“Education is the only key to empower girls and Focus on girl education and develop the nation”
-- Srajansethiya
According to the Constitution of India, education is a fundamental right of every child. However, the situation in India is
dreadful because girls in many parts are not given the option of attending school. How can education be denied based on
gender? By denying education to a girl child, we are putting humanity to shame. Our indian constitution say's Girls' education
is a strategic development priority. Better educated women tend to be healthier, participate more in the formal labor market,
earn higher incomes, have fewer children, marry at a later age, and enable better health care and education for their children,
should they choose to become mothers. Women and girls in the developing world are often denied opportunities for education.
World Education believes that education for girls and women is the single most effective way to improve the lives of individual
families as well as to bring economic development to poor communities worldwide. When the Girl Child Education , They
go to school, help with housework, work in factories, make friends, care for elder and younger family members and prepare
themselves to take on the responsibilities of adulthood. Girls play multiple roles in the household, society and the economy.
Economic independence and empowerment will come when we educate the girl child. Improved life: Educating of the girl
child helps in the improvement of a good life. ... Improved health: Educated girls bring an awareness of the important of

Women have a vital role to play in the overall development of the nation. Their full participation is therefore essential to achieve sustainable development” (Principle 20, Rio Declaration). There is a dual rationale for promoting gender equality. Firstly, that equality between women and men - equal rights, opportunities and responsibilities is a matter of human rights and social justice. And secondly, that greater equality between women and men is also a precondition for (and effective indicator of) sustainable people-centered development. The perceptions, interests, needs and priorities of both women and men must be taken into consideration not only as a matter of social justice but because they are necessary to enrich development processes” (OSAGI 2001). Abstract
Certificate
Gender-based violence or violence against women and girls is a global pandemic that affects one in three women in their lifetime (World Bank, 2019).Violence against women is a growing concern for any modern society. It is an extreme manifestation of gender inequality and systemic gender-based discrimination. Violence against women can be manifested in many ways, it may be physical, emotional, sexual, psychological, verbal and economic. It may involve a variety of other behaviors used to maintain fear and power such as intimidation, isolation and threats. Domestic violence is a common form of violence against women which is considered “normal” within many cultures. Domestic violence refers to violence against women particularly in matrimonial homes. It is a glaring reality in India. It is one of the crimes against women which is linked to their disadvantageous position as a result of the tight patriarchal norms and structure of traditional Indian culture. Culturally sanctioned beliefs have historically legitimized a man’s use of violence with respect to his wife. India is one of the thirty-six countries that still have not criminalized marital rape. The present paper explores domestic violence in the Indian scenario and the possible ways to put an end to this social evil.

The social concept in the minds of people is dynamic. This dynamism has a great outcome that is observed in today’s 21st century. The influential factor is the reason for this dynamism. The psyche of the people is moulded with the help of proper Education and guidance. Educating the true meaning of gender is of utmost necessity. This is often mistaken with the concept of “Ability of a men and women” . Gender is just a biological and psychological characteristics and not to discriminate by ability of the person. The issue of inequality, abuse at home or workplaces, discrimination etc. followed for millennia and is still continuing. Leadership is quality of inducing the heart mind and soul in a productive way. The topic Gender and leadership role deserves serious note as the leadership is often considered as a power of a human and not the intellectual ability. The topic must consider and discussed as it is practised in all fields like group like in Education, Organisations, Politics, Culture, Society, At home etc. A leader is the one who lead and own the value of oneness among the group no matter whether is a men or a women. The main objective of the paper is to understand the true meaning of leadership with the support of gender.

Abstract

Gender is the range of characteristics pertaining to, and differentiating between, masculinity and femininity. Depending on the context, these characteristics may include biological sex, sex-based social structures, or gender identity. Leadership is both a research area and a practical skill encompassing the ability of an individual or organization to "lead" or guide other individuals, teams, or entire organizations. This paper is based on Gender and Leadership Roles, we will seek to understand the tacit gender prejudices inherent in organizational practices and the embodied effects of such prejudices for the individuals involved. We will find that despite an overt acknowledgement of equal rights and opportunities, many women and men still experience very real barriers in terms of their access to leadership opportunities, in many cases, the so-called “glass ceiling”. We will investigate the subtle gendered prejudices and expectations about how women and men lead lie at the heart of the challenges many individuals face in finding their leadership role in organizations.

GENDER AND LEADERSHIP ROLES (GENDER EQUALITY AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT)
Parveen Arif
DOI : 10.5281/amierj.6945767
Abstract
Certificate
Leadership has been a part of human experience since people formed groups to survive threats from the environment. Gender
is an individual difference characteristic that is relevant to how people think about themselves. How people are thought about
by others. How people act in various situations. Gender, therefore, is relevant to consider with regard to how it relates to
leadership effectiveness.
Company leadership around the world remains unbalanced, with women accounting for less than a quarter of management
positions globally. The disparity is even greater when it comes to higher-level management positions. There is no doubt that
gender has had a major impact on leadership availability and fulfillment in the workplace. Though women have struggled
for a long time to effect positive change with respect to hiring and promotion practices enabling women to secure leadership
positions, the struggle is clearly not over. Even though the numbers are improving they are doing so slowly.
Until recently, leadership positions have predominantly been held by men and men were therefore stereotyped to be more
effective leaders. Women were rarely seen in senior leadership positions leading to a lack of data on how they behave in such
positions. However, current research has found a change in trend and women have become more prevalent in the workforce
over the past two decades, especially in management and leadership positions.
Gender must be considered to determine how each leader can reach maximum potential and effectiveness. The present paper
uses this conceptual framework of leadership to discuss how consideration of gender may affect and optimize leadership
development and effectiveness.

HOME INITIATES GENDER INEQUALITY

DOI : 10.5281/amierj.6945784
Abstract
Certificate
In the overwhelming society we come across many practises which are still not being enlightened to the world. One of them is gender inequality which has been experienced by many women from the very beginning of their life i.e. from home.
With the view of this, we present the paper which emphasizes on gender inequality taking place in home and through which we shape/mould our character accordingly. Thus to illuminate the issues of gender disparity in the grass root level, we decided to do the study, to point out how family acts as a cause of gender inequality. Through this research, we claim that parents themselves live in a gender wise unequal environment and reinforce their children to play the same stereotyped roles framed by such an environment. Additionally the text explores the gender stereotyped aspects of certain norms like “Woman’s name is supposed to be followed by her husband’s name once she gets married.”
The universe for this study is a set of couples who have children. Participants were asked to answer questions about their lifestyle before and after marriage and their expectations and plans for their children ( boy and girl ).

GENDER INEQUALITY ON SOCIO-ECONOMIC FACTORS AND CHANGING PERSPECTIVES OF PEOPLE
Shweta Pandey Sabina Rose Cheran
DOI : 10.5281/amierj.6945794
Abstract
Certificate
Even in this era of modernization and development, there are still doubts in the societal perspectives with regards
to roles and responsibilities of gender. Gender Equality in a short line is equality among all types of gender in
society in terms of each gender rights. It means that every citizen of any country or society must be given equal
rights for survival in society. Even though the society is changing and evolving, even though there have been
various reforms and efforts being taken with respect to gender equalization, there are still some examples prevalent
in the society such as Glass Ceiling culture practiced in the corporal sectors, a man if seen crying is considered
weak or effeminate. The stereotypical roles that women are weaker sections of society and men class considered
to have an upper edge are divided to such extent and are so deep rooted that even though the efforts are taken for
gender equality, still the society finds it difficult to accept the changing roles of genders and that gender inequality
is still a major concern to be pondered upon. Even though Women are giving an equal edge to men in almost all
the fields from IT to Sports, right from Chanda Koccher to Mary Kom to Kumud Shrinivasan to Saina Nehwal to
Mary Kom , the capabilities are still questioned. Why can’t the man of the house cook dinner for his family? Why
can’t a female be the bread winner and the decision maker of her family? Why can’t Men cry and vent out their
emotions? Why a women is always steoreotyped to be weak and tender and on the other hand males as strong and
demanding? This kind of deep rooted stereotypical gender role nurturing has lead to various crimes towards
women such as rapes, dowry deaths, physical and mental abuse and the counting goes on. There is still an alarming
need towards gender equality for a mutual co-existence for each gender.

Such in order of things in India in spite of the fact that women nowadays, are no less proficient than men in any field. In the case Kerala women, the same as the above. But today, women are not what they used to be some years ago; they have now made their presence felt in every sphere of life. Women have ultimately discarded their homely image and are now making meaningful contribution to the progress of the nation. The present paper makes an attempt to highlight how it contradicts as in the state of Kerala which has created a congenial atmosphere for the emergence of women empowerment and development of women entrepreneurship through Kudumbashree. ‘Kudumbashree’, which mean prosperity (shree)‘ of the family ( Kudumbam) is the name of the women oriented, community based, State Poverty Eradication Mission of Government of Kerala. Kerala is a tiny state lying in the south-west part of Indian peninsula, where many development experiments are being tested, refined and implemented. The mission aims at the empowerment of women, through forming self-help groups and encouraging their entrepreneurial or other wide range of activities.
