INFLUENCE OF WORKING FROM HOME DURING THE COVID-19 CRISIS AND HR PRACTITIONER
Prof. Dr. Rajaram Nathaji Wakchaure
DOI : 10.5281/amierj.6990402
Abstract
Certificate
The pandemic sweeping the world, COVID-19, has rendered a large proportion of the workforce unable to commute
to work, as to mitigate the spread of the virus. Due to the pandemic, most if not all workers experienced work from
home (WFH). Hence WFH has become a policy priority for most governments. In doing so, the policies must be made
keeping in mind the practicality for both employers and employees. However, this current situation provides unique
insight into how well working from home works, and may play a vital role in future policies that reshape the current
structure of working hours, possibly allowing for more flexibility. The pandemic has changed the way people work,
and more and more people are choosing to work from home (WFH). Unlike traditional work patterns, this approach
has limitations and has had a significant impact on both organizations and individuals. It also brings many challenges
to the work of HR practitioners. HR practitioners, as key players in strategic human resource management, need to
take advantage of management innovations under the crisis to improve employees’ work flexibility and effectively
address the impact of working from home. This study aims to address the need for employee skill improvement,
psychological stress relief, work-family balance, and company culture reinforcement from an HRM perspective
because of the impact of WFH work patterns during the COVID-19 crisis.

Dr. Sanhita Athawale & Ms. Sonia Virani
DOI : 10.5281/amierj.6990406
Abstract
Certificate
India crossed the grim milestone of three crore Covid-19 cases by June 2021. Today, as the country steers its way
through the pandemic to safer shores, we must foreground the battle fought by the country’s frontline workers,
especially women leaders who helmed decisive administrative tasks and prevailed most unprecedented and challenging
circumstances. Women administrative officers who worked in adverse conditions and risked all in line of duty deserve
special mention and acknowledgment. This study aims at highlighting the impact of the pandemic on work productivity
of women administrative officers, especially when the pandemic peaked in the state of Maharashtra between 2020 and
2021. Employing the Work Limitations Questionnaire (WLQ), a 25 item self-report survey instrument, we tried to
assess the work limitations encountered by women officers in four areas namely Time Management, Physical Demands,
Mental-Interpersonal Demands and Output Demands which, upon using an algorithm get converted into an estimate
of Productivity Loss. Using purposive sampling method 79 officers belonging to Pune and Aurangabad divisions of
Maharashtra were administered the WLQ in either offline or online mode. Results revealed that each one of the woman
officers suffered productivity loss in varying degrees. About 43 officers suffered between 15% to 20% work productivity
loss while 25 officers reported suffering grave work productivity loss exceeding 20%. Scaled scores indicate that most
work limitations were faced handling time and scheduling demands, performing cognitive tasks, engaging in social
interactions and diminished output of work. This study takes cognisance of challenges faced by women officers in
discharging their duties and offers opportunities for actionable solutions. Authorities can engage in an iterative
process of building and scaling up intervention prototypes for women workforce and contributing to their work
proficiency and wellbeing

The covid -19 pandemic has led to closures of schools /colleges affecting education for over two years. School/Colleges
started online mode of education to reach out to the students. This sudden shift to a digital platform was full of
challenges and was stressful for the teachers. This study aims to understand teacher’s experiences and the unique set
of challenges faced by them during the online classes. To explore the impact of this dissonance online survey data was
collected through google forms from teachers. The questionnaire included questions dealing with background
information like, gender, age and type of students they taught (secondary, higher secondary and higher education),
barriers experienced while teaching, coping strategies and their stress levels. All metric variables were analyzed by
using parametric statistical procedures while the non-metric variables by Chi Square test. The survey showed that
teachers having adequate pedagogical and technical skills had a successful transition to online classes. Some teachers
encountered significant challenges and made adequate adjustment in order to adapt to the need of online classroom.
Analysis also showed that teachers were also concerned for the students as there was a significant low response from
them in terms of interaction. More than 50% teachers spent more than 3 hours in online teaching and spent further
hours in assignment checking resulting in more screen time leading to headaches and eye stress it was found that
unstable network was the major hinderance faced by 30% teachers. A substantial relationship was found between
teacher’s subjective stress level and their type of school.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a major health crisis that has impacted the economy, livelihood, mental and physical wellbeing
of people worldwide. Social isolation and loneliness were major contributing factors that have been linked with
decline in mental and physical health during Covid-19 pandemic. During this pandemic, though all age groups suffered
the consequences, older adults experienced greater adverse effects including age induced physiological changes &
related complications, higher mortality, isolation induced mental health disturbances, concerns about disruptions to
their daily routines and access to care. Hypothesizing about the outcomes of the current situation, the present study
aims to analyse the impact of pandemic on mental & physical status of geriatric population. Methodology included
telephonic semi-structured interviews in a randomly selected representative samples belonging to two different groups.
Categories involved were independently living elder population & elderly persons living with family (n = 50;
age ≥ 60 years). Data revealed that 88 % of elderly persons living with family experienced less impact on mental health
while remaining 12% were negatively affected due to social isolation and loneliness. The physical health of 42%
population belonging to the same category displayed no significant change by adapting disciplined lifestyle, however,
68% showed decline in physical health. The mental health (93%) and physical health (84%) of geriatric population
living independently were negatively affected during social isolation. An improvement in mental health was observed
in the remaining elderly population (7%), nevertheless the physical health (16% population) did not affect much.
Research findings emphasized emotional and physical upheaval of most vulnerable group of society due to extreme
restrictions imposed during pandemic while it also fostered some positive impact on them.

Abstract

March 2020 witnessed unprecedented attack of Corona virus throughout the world. India was not an exception to it.
This was the virus which was unknown so far. There were no known preventive medicine and the spread of the virus
was like wind. There were several lakhs of people affected by this pandemic. No Government was prepared to deal
with such a situation. The entire public was gripped with fear. World over the scientists were working round the clock
to invent vaccine to prevent the pandemic.
As the initial intensity of the spread of Corona virus was reduced, after taking review of the situation, the Government
started opening of the economy in a phased manner. Some relaxations were given, placing some restrictions to avoid
further spread of the virus, to the industries and the shop keepers.
The total lockdown imposed on the 22nd March 2020 was prolonged until 2021. Pune being the industrially advanced
district in the state of Maharashtra the labour force was severely hit. Pune is automobile and IT hub. Besides several
other major industries are located in and around Pune city. Construction industry in Pune is also a prime segment.
All these industries were having workforce migrated from across various states like Bihar, UP, M.P. Karnataka etc.
Therefore, the workers preferred to go back to their original places. The Govt. of India organized free ration to these
displaced workers for a continuous period till the normalcy was restored.
Now the third wave of the pandemic is receding and the restrictions have been lifted to a great extent. Now trains are
running regularly. Those who have taken the vaccine are allowed to travel. Hence gradually work force is returning
back. It is hoped that the industrial production will shortly reach the pre-covid level shortly.

COVID-19 AND MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES IN HEALTHCARE WARRIORS
Ms. Lumbini Shill
DOI : 10.5281/amierj.6990456
Abstract
Certificate
The past two years have been coupled with absurdities, incongruences and oddities. Many healthcare workers had to
work long shifts and under high-pressure situations. Many of them have been exposed to trauma and have had to deal
with long term psychological consequences.
Lack of resources, risk of transmission, increased workload and stigmatization in society severely affected the mental
well-being of the health care workers during the rise of the Covid19 pandemic. Many had to encounter ethical
dilemmas of choosing between severities and prioritising patients regularly. Many new trainees were put on the field
due to the shortage of workforce and have worked without any remuneration or even proper guidance regarding
handling patients.
There have been several instances of health care workers being evicted or threatened by anxious property owners and
neighbours because of their profession. They had to face a cruel stance from their friends and acquaintances which
led to situations of being secluded by society. Many doctors and medical interns had been reported to have died by
suicide in the wake of the pandemic.
Female caregivers had to endure an extra hurdle of being in PPE suits for long hours even during their periods without
any bathroom breaks. It is indeed paramount to identify the anxiety, stress and agonies of people associated with the
health care field so that it doesn’t further lead to a heightened scale of depression or dejection and ultimately end up
provoking suicidal thoughts. The absence of official counselling had left many health care workers miserable and
susceptible to depression.
The observations attempted in this paper would apply to health care providers, employed in clinical services like
doctors, pharmacists, nurses, community health workers. This may also apply to other social care workers in
supporting roles such as ambulance drivers or hospital staff who have contact with patients.

THE MODERN APOCALYPSE: CONTEXTUALIZING URBAN PANDEMIC IN SELECT WORK OF DON DELILLO
Ms. Nivedita Bhardwaj
DOI : 10.5281/amierj.6990458
Abstract
Certificate
Human existence has always been in close proximity of pandemics that may have a tendency to wipe them off the
planet. However, with the evolutionary progress and rampant development of technology, these disasters are often
man-made. The contemporary society that experiences Covid-19, mitigation of which often validated the usage of
masks, lockdown and containment zones can also be read within the framework of Don DeLillo whose text White Noise
presents a scenario of contemporary America that has fallen to a pandemic like situation after an urban disaster.
To comprehend the issues affecting the contemporary society, it is pertinent to take cognizance of the technological
evolution and the subsequent sophisticated forms of repressions. They are a direct consequence of existence in these
‘urban technoscapes’ because modern living is often prone to man-made disasters. Keeping in cue with the aforesaid,
the study attempts at underscoring the ‘simulacrum’ conjured in DeLillo’s select fiction to discern the gradual
catastrophe of technical expansion. The paper aims to underline how the rising scientific grandiose comes
accompanied with man-made dissent and tragedy. It also attempts at highlighting how mitigating the modern day
apocalypse is bound to the very technology that causes the collapse. DeLillo’s America is similar to that of present
day India with people facing unintelligible stress of a lockdown, forced evacuation and also zonal containment that
has not only caused psychological issues but also crisis in current extant

relation to their Wellbeing and Adjustment. Data was collected from 60 participants that are 30 Covid-19 Sufferers
and 30 Non-Covid-19 Sufferers from Pune city in Maharashtra State only who fall in the age group of 18-25 years.
This study employed survey questionnaires that were sent out to the respondents via Google forms- an online survey
taking platform. A total of 85 responses were collected out of which only 60 were chosen. Due to Covid-19 protocol,
qualitative research could not be followed. The study hypothesized that Covid-19 sufferers will be low on Wellbeing
and its sub-factors- Emotional Stability, Sociability, Self-Esteem, Jovial and Happiness compared to Non-Covid-19
sufferers as well as Covid-19 sufferers will be low on Adjustment as compared to Non-Covid-19 sufferers. SPSS
Statistics version 20 was used for the data analysis wherein Independent Samples T-test was used for the analysis to
compare the means of both the groups since it was found to be suitable in the present study. From the results of the
analysis, it was found out through the findings that there was no significant difference between Covid-19 sufferers and
Non-Covid-19 sufferers in relation to their Wellbeing and its sub-factors- Emotional Stability, Sociability, Self-Esteem,
Jovial and Happiness as well as their Adjustment. In addition, the study indicates that if a wider geographical area
was covered for the sample and if the recency of being infected by Covid-19 was taken into consideration, there could
have been some drastic results to be noted.

The Covid19 pandemic had created a variety of real-life psychological stress, examples stressors were to know the
number of individuals getting infected, individuals who died (family members, friends, neighbours, colleagues), the
economic consequences, the facts of government orders – community curfew, stay at home, travel restriction, on the
other hand the teachers getting terminated from educational institutes [1]. Different stressors are been observed above
i.e. while during the traditional face to face teaching or while exploring or implementing the online teaching
technologies [3]. The study aims to investigate the different attitudes of teacher towards this sudden shift to online
teaching during the Covid 19 pandemic, and how in turn these attitudes influenced or triggered as positive or negative
stressor [2].
A systematic review of literature on desired topic started with a search in the databases of Google Scholar and Web
of Science. The key words used were teacher, covid19 pandemic, online teaching, face to face teaching, stress, teacher
satisfaction, teacher’s role, digital literacy development.
The study has reviewed that almost all the teachers had managed with the sudden shift from face to face teaching to
online teaching model [8]. Teachers did struggle to adapt the additional workload and stresses [12]. The review found
that the teacher overcome the stressors with regards to TEACHING, while having positive attitude towards the sudden
change and readiness to learn and adopt technology, understanding and learning the skill of social presence and its
effective use of active and thoughtful participation of all the students, professional satisfaction of teacher supported
by the management and the policy makers is the only means to create a collaborative, transformative process by which

Stress in simple words is an experience which brings tension to human beings. This experience of stress is different to
different people depending upon age, upbringing, educational and social background and the technic to handle stress
or overcome it too differs. Stress Management is a technique of utmost importance not only from economic, social or
health point of view but for overall development of human being and his existence. However and unfortunately the
magnitude of its management is not equivalent in all. Youth are the backbone and an asset to any Society, State and
Nation as the power of youth is considered very essential as they are believed of being ‘future’ and for building new
bridges to prosperity of any country. The young generation who will venture into the world after their education to
fulfil their dreams and getting engaged in self-employment or some sort of corporate or Government services would
be required to have mental toughness and need to be prepared for various challenges forming hurdles in their ways.
The current study aims to identify the problems and challenges that huddles final year girl graduates of Arts specially
coming from Marathi Medium. These students need stress management counselling before entering into the cut throat
competition in this overloaded world. Using case studies, this study carried out in-depth interviews. Students of final
year of Arts were randomly chosen from the total population as a sample study. The data collection has been conducted
through both primary and secondary database.

EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND MODIFIABLE RISK FACTORS AMONG CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE PATIENTS WITH TYPE D PERSONALITY
Ms. Sheena Philips
DOI : 10.5281/amierj.6990488
Abstract
Certificate
Modifiable risk factors like high blood pressure, diabetes, inactivity, unhealthy diet and smoking increase the risk of
developing and maintaining Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). As CAD is incurable, patients who have undergone
intervention need to manage risk factors to prevent progression, rehospitalisation and cardiac complications.
Personality and Emotional Intelligence influence the way risk factors are addressed by patients. Type D personality
is associated with negative expectations from self and others and discomfort in social situations resulting in challenges
managing modifiable risk factors .In recent times mixed research methods have gained prominence due to focus on
subjective commonalities of experience and objective quantitative measures. The DS 14 scale was used to identify Type
D CAD patients. The present study used semi structured interviews to explore the experiences of CAD patients with
Type D personality who had undergone cardiac intervention .Quantitative investigation focused on finding the
relationship between Type D personality, Emotional Intelligence and modifiable risk factors in these patients. EEA
was administered along with information about demographic details and modifiable risk factors .The results indicated
presence of distress, restriction adjustment, perceived social support and spirituality. Negative affectivity(NA) was
significantly negatively related to self-awareness (r= -.259 , p<.05), self-control (r= -.294, p<.05), empathy (r= -.280,
p< .05) and overall Emotional Intelligence (r= -.288, p<05 ).Significant negative correlation was also found between
NA and exercise (r= -.247, p<.05), Type D personality and self-control (r= -.234, p<.05) empathy and hypertension
(r= -.222, p<.05). A significant positive correlation was obtained between diabetes and smoking (r= .267,
p<.05).Overall NA (trait in Type D personality) was a stronger predictor of poor Emotional Intelligence .Step wise
multiple regression indicated self-control as a predictor variable which explained 9% of the variance in negative
affectivity .

COVID-19 has changed education for learners of all ages. It appears that there has been some educational losses at
many levels. There has been an increased anxiety and a silent depression associated with the changes in delivery of
education. But there are not any t data on long-term outcomes or impact of the pandemic on learning of students at
graduate/post-graduate levels. . Guidance from oversighted organizations regarding the safety and efficacy of new
delivery modalities for education have been quickly forged. It is no surprise that the socioeconomic gaps and gaps for
special learners have widened. The professions that teach by incrementally graduated internships are also severely

MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS AMONG CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS DURING COVID-19
Dr. Durgesh Narpat Valvi
DOI : 10.5281/amierj.6990496
Abstract
Certificate
The COVID-19 pandemic brought a complex array of challenges which had mental health repercussions for everyone,
including children and adolescents. Grief, fear, uncertainty, social isolation, increased screen time, and parental
fatigue have negatively affected the mental health of children. It has become difficult for parents to calm their
children’s anxieties because of the uncertainty and stress in their own lives. During the pandemic, adolescents at high
risk of psychological problems might fall through the safety net provided by a protective family life, peer support, and
psychological support from teachers. Any pre-existing mental health problem, past traumatic experiences or abuse,
family instability, or losing a loved one can make children highly vulnerable to developing severe mental health
conditions. Mental health problems among this special population were widely ignored, unsolved and given less
importance due to lack of understanding. Mental health of Children and adolescent shall be promoted through a series
of Psychosocial Management strategies and activities.

STRESS MANAGEMENT DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO TEACHERS OF SENIOR COLLEGE
Dr. Ashwini Kulkarni
DOI : 10.5281/amierj.6990662
Abstract
Certificate
Stress is a feeling of emotional or physical tension. It can come from any event or thought that makes you feel
frustrated, angry, or nervous. Stress is your body's reaction to a challenge or demand. In short bursts, stress can be
positive, such as when it helps you avoid danger or meet a deadline. Job stress is the harmful physical and emotional
responses that occur when the requirements of the job do not match the capabilities, resources, or needs of the worker.
Job stress matters to our health and our work. When we feel stressed, our bodies respond by raising the concentration
of stress hormones in our blood. We spend roughly one third of our adult lives at work. It’s no wonder that workplace
stress factors heavily impact both our physical and mental health. Stressful life situations such as pandemics can have
significant negative implications for the mental health and psychological functioning of an individual. Stress, anxiety,
mental confusion, social deprivation, and depression are a few examples of these mental and psychological issues also
support that quarantined experiences due to COVID-19 lead to stress, fear, and frustration in individuals. Similarly,
uncertainty due to COVID-19 is also associated with significant changes in our daily routines that can increase stress,
depression, and anxiety Likewise, a recent systematic review on the COVID-19 pandemic and mental health and a
narrative review on COVID-19 related mental health effects in the workplace also concluded that COVID-19 has
resulted in increased levels of depression, anxiety, and poor sleep quality. Other prior literature has investigated work
stress having an impact on various work practices under normal conditions, but the literature has not taken into
account the effects of work stress on employee performance in uncertain conditions such as the outbreak of the COVID-
19 pandemic. This paper takes into consideration the job stress of teachers of senior college during the COVID-19
pandemic situation.

Education is the building block of any nation; it builds skills, habits, knowledge and mind of the child. Any nation
cannot afford the discontinuation of its education system. Health is also a major concern for any nation and keeping
its countrymen healthy is the responsibility of the nation’s government. The outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19)
has been declared by WHO a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC). In this paper, we are
discussing about covid-19 and its impact on school education in the Indian context and also the impact is analyzed
from a gender perspective. To understand the concept of Indian schools in the context of online education, the
importance of education and COVID 19 impacts on education from the perspective of parents, teachers, and students.
For this purpose, a total of 100 respondents were selected from public and private sector schools of Maharashtra . Data
collection is done using structured questionnaires and analysis is performed with the help of group statistics and
independent sample tests. Results of the study disclosed that online classes are the best viable solution in situations
like a pandemic and the tool is embraced by both the gender stakeholders equally. However, a few critical aspects that
need a solution in this context are identified as trained and skilled teachers.
