LIVING AN ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY LIFE
Dr. Sunayana J Kadle
DOI : 10.5281/amierj.6970807
Abstract
Certificate
Our environment is constantly changing. However, as our environment changes, so does the need to become increasingly aware of the problems that surround it. With a massive influx of natural disasters, warming and cooling periods, different types of weather patterns and much more, people need to be aware of what types of environmental problems our planet is facing. Our planet is poised at the brink of a severe environmental crisis. Current environmental problems make us vulnerable to disasters and tragedies, now and in the future. We are in a state of planetary emergency, with environmental problems piling up high around us. Unless we address the various issues prudently and seriously we are surely doomed for disaster. The paper reports a research study that was conducted to find out the general opinion of the public about the environment preservation and self initiatives for mitigating the problems. It was found that the people are aware about the environmental issues and agree that humans are responsible for environmental problems but the initiatives need to be taken on a personal level. Only awareness is not enough action has to be taken. The action can be taken by consciously following the 5rs guidelines for achieving environmental sustainability. These 5 r's are only the initials of some words that determine actions to mitigate our impacts: 5rs - recycle, reuse, reduce, refuse and rethink

Textile Industry is known to be the second largest polluting industry. Circularity in production streams through emerging green technologies in reuse or recovered or environmentally friendly raw materials is one solution. Some environmental issues need to be addressed at the Industry level. Environmental impact of textile wet processing: water consumption, energy consumption, CO2 emissions, waste water and sludge, air emissions, chemical consumption. This paper reviews natural, regenerated and biodegradable fibres which are eco-friendly and alternative susutainable pocesses to conventional production. Sustainable alternatives in processing, process optimization, recovery and reuse of bath liquors, effluent treatment plant are some of the technologies being practised. Ecological compliances, both National and International through Eco labels and certification. Designers need to ethically design and develop products. Ethical fashion aims to reduce the carbon footprints. Individual green Initiatives have been taken by major brands. Awareness of these are important to designers of products and its consumers. The consumer can then make conscious choises in selecting, using and disposing products. Awareness on green technologies at each stage in the supply chain from designing, processing, manufacturing and marketing are important for both tranceparancy and traceability.

“Nature provides a free lunch, but only if we control our appetites.”
—William Ruckelshaus
The word “Environment" is most commonly used to describe "natural" environment and means the sum of all living and non-living things that surround an organism, or group of organisms. Environment includes all elements, factors, and conditions that have some impact on growth and development of certain organism. The environmental issues in India become more serious every day and she is turning into a bit of a mess on this front but with a serious lack of education and over 1 Billion people, a huge amount of which are in dire poverty, it's hardly surprising. The recent boom in its industries, little or no environmental education, infrastructure nearly at bursting point not to mention the huge deforestation that's going on. In fact, there is no shortage at all of government legislation protecting the environment but unfortunately it is never enforced due to flagrant abuse of power, corruption and lack of resources. The aim of the research was to check the general awareness of citizens towards environmental concerns. Structured questionnaire in the form of google form was used in the study. The participants of the study included 8 males and 52 females each of different age group and from various educational backgrounds. It was found that every participant involved in the study was equally concerned about the environment and the damage we as humans are making to it.

DOI : 10.5281/amierj.6970811
Abstract
Certificate
Audit is an important Management Information System(MIS) tool, on which many management decisions are dependent. The purpose of any audit is to acquire information and provide additional discipline on the internal processes to validate proper functioning of the specific system.
Environmental Audit is a very broad term as ‘environment’ in itself comprises of biotic and abiotic components. Environment includes water, air and land and the inter-relationship which exist among and between water, air and land and human beings, other living creatures, plants, micro organism and property. Environmental Audit, therefore, is an independent evaluation of (i) Policy and Principles (ii) Systems (iii) Procedures (iv) Practices and (v) performances of elements of an industry relating to environment. Environmental is a management tool comprising a systematic, documented, periodic, and objective evaluation of how well environmental organization, management and equipment are performing with the aim of helping to safeguard the environemntby: (1) Facilitating management control of environmental practices: (ii) Assessing compliance with company policies, which would include meeting regulatory requirements. This paper tries to study the meaning of environmental audit its importance and the environmental audit in India.

CLIMATE ETHICS AND JUSTICE
Dr.S.Komalavalli & M.Sumithra
DOI : 10.5281/amierj.6970815
Abstract

Ethics are important because it is a philosophical technique that can help society take a step back and have a broader view of what the causes and consequences of climate change are, and how to react and act accordingly. As an illustration, climate change is viewed as the greatest threat to national development especially for small island developing states. Climate change is the most significant moral and environmental issue of our time. The collapse of the 2009 Copenhagen negotiations lead many to question whether the international community really had a moral compass to follow, beyond shallow declaratory statements and ambiguous phrases. The critical 2015 Paris negotiations will again put the actions and inactions of states squarely before the world’s peoples.

"The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything." -- Albert Einstein
Life affects the composition of the atmosphere and therefore the climate because different life forms take in and release gases like carbon dioxide, methane and oxygen at different rates. Climatic conditions help to shape various ecosystems and habitats around the globe. A particular climate can be a boon to one species and devastation to another.
As the climate changes, species and ecosystems respond by adapting, migrating, or reducing their population. Gradual shifts in the climate are easier to adapt to than abrupt swings, and this is certainly true for humans as well as other species. Studies of Earth's climatic history indicate that climates have changed in the past and resulted in dramatic shifts in ecosystems.

Climate models predict that Earth’s global average temperate will rise in the future. For
the next two decades warming of about 0.2° Celsius is projected. If we continue to emit
as many, or more, greenhouse gases, this will cause more warming during the 21st
Century than we saw in the 20th Century.

‘No Challenge poses a greater threat to future generations than climate change’
– B. Obama
With the escalation in the industry, economy, infrastructure and technology; the present
era is also experiencing the negative and harmful effects of climate change. Since early
20th century, Earth’s average surface temperature has risen up to 0.9 degrees Celsius. This
is mainly due to the increased carbon dioxide and other emissions into the atmosphere by
humans. It is a time to take action to stop climate change. Therefore, the present education
system should not only focus on educating the academic and co-curricular, but also on
the climate change issues to the young generation. And for this, the teacher education
institutions should prepare the future teachers to be completely aware about the changing
environmental situations and its negative impact on the planet Earth. This paper discusses
about the various activities that the teacher education institutions can plan for the studentteachers
in their two-year B.Ed. program to disseminate the awareness about climate
protection.

Abstract

Environment is everything that is around. It can be living or non-living things. It includes physical, chemicals and other natural forces. Living things live in their environment. They constantly interact with it and change in response to conditions in their environment. We have seen green patches turning into a dessert, rivers submerge the areas, increased alkaline in the water levels and make loose the species like a pack of cards. If experts are to be believed, then we are losing between 10,000 and 100,000 species each year or are getting extinct each year. So we need to do thinking how and why should environment be saved. In cities we need environment more vehemently than any other part of the inhabitation. This paper examines the need for parks in a metro city. It compares two parks of two famous cities of the world.

Architecture and interior design addresses the cultural, behavioral and environmental issues that affects the built environment by viewing the spaces with imagination and emotional intellect to design a habitable spaces with sustainability. The understanding of sustainable design is fundamental to all levels of educations. With the growing global concern associated with waste management and climate change, the planners and designers of space need to mitigate the impacts of negative footprints of development through not only scientific study for the modern solutions, but also historic research on built up spaces. Vernacular design is an important base of contemporary architecture. The art and craft which has evolved from a long-established cultural backdrop offers many lessons on aesthetics as well as sustainability. Likewise the changing trends in designing propagates reuse and reinvention of material like furniture, fixtures and articles that have lost their primary value original in due course of time and context.
The Indian sub-continent offers indigenous and rich montage of art and heritage spaces with diversity of materials and design elements. This paper aims to explore concept of adaptive reuse, upscaling and reinventing for aesthetic evolution and conservation of the spaces.

GANDHIAN PERSPECTIVE, MEASURE’S ON CLIMATE CHANGE & ENVIRONMENTAL LAW IN INDIA
Mr .Roshan Maya Varma
DOI : 10.5281/amierj.6970884
Abstract

Environment is a place where different things are such as a swampy or hot environment. It can be living (biotic) or non-living (abiotic) things. It includes physical, chemical and other natural forces. Living things live in their environment. They constantly interact with it and adapt themselves to conditions in their environment. In the environment there are different interactions between animals, plants, soil, water, and other living and non-living things. Since everything is part of the environment of something else, the word environment is used to talk about many things.
Thus, Environment includes the living and non-living things that an organism interacts with or has an effect on it. Living elements that an organism interacts with, are known as biotic elements: animals, plants, etc., abiotic elements are non-living things which include air, water, sunlight etc. Studying the environment means studying the relationships among these various things. An example of interactions between non-living and living things is plants getting their minerals from the soil and making food using sunlight. Predation, an organism eating another, is an example of interaction between living things. Things in the natural environment are called natural resources. These are renewable resources because they come back naturally when we use them. Non-renewable resources are important things in the environment that are limited for example, ores and fossil fuels. Some things in the natural environment can kill people, such as lightning.
• Ecological units which are natural systems without much human interference. These include all vegetation, microorganisms, soil, rocks, atmosphere, and natural events.
Universal natural resources and physical phenomenon which lack clear-cut boundaries. These include climate, air, water, energy, radiation, electric charge, and magnetism.

THE GREAT DERANGEMENT: CLIMATE CHANGE AND THE UNTHINKABLE BY AMITAV GHOSH – A BOOK REVIEW
Dr.Judy Grace Andrews
DOI : 10.5281/amierj.6970916
Abstract
Certificate
Amitav Ghosh is one of India's best-known writers. His books include The Circle of Reason, The Shadow Lines, In An Antique Land, Dancing in Cambodia, The Calcutta Chromosome, The Glass Palace, Incendiary Circumstances, The Hungry Tide. His most recent novel, Sea of Poppies, is the first volume of the Ibis Trilogy. The Great Derangement" seem to be an insightful provocative engagement with climate change and culture. Ghosh's main concern is to figure out why climate change seems to puzzle the sustained cultural attention and serious political consideration that he thinks it merits. Indeed, he thinks the situation is so dire that the historians of the future will wonder if the humans of the early 21st century were deranged. Ghosh paints the frightening picture he does; it amazes us that this has remained so much in the periphery of our current discourse. . The environmental catastrophe is pen pictured as the author vividly examines and manifests the limits of human thoughts.
