STUDYING HISTORY: PERIODIZATION-A NECESSITY OR CONVENIENCE
Dr. Madhumita Bandyopadhyay
DOI : 10.5281/EIIRJ.7117426
Abstract
Certificate
Periodization in History means dividing the past into certain span of time and studying the historical events therein. Periodization is so popular in history that this pattern is used not only in school books but is also considered as a basis for specialization in higher studies This paper seeks to question whether periodization in history is inevitable or a matter of convenience. The paper brings out the merits and demerits of the system of periodizing history. It shows that periodization can only lead to confusions. The past cannot be compartmentalized into ancient, medieval and modern or even contemporary because these concepts are inevitably defined in various ways, by various persons in various places at various times. Moreover one cannot confine oneself into one period as every event has a background and a consequence. Periodization inhibits this full view. The only alternative to this confusion and controversy regarding periodization in history is to bring it to an end. One could adopt thematic study of history where a certain theme could be judged in its right perspective by considering the effects on it of the various facets of the passage of time. The ambiguous periodization of history could be terminated and history could be treated as a continuous flow.

DOI : 10.5281/EIIRJ.7117451
Abstract
Certificate
For increase the productivity per unit area of small land holdings and considering the economic condition of Indian farmers, it is quite necessary to have suitable agricultural implements which farmers can use and also allow them to use for custom hiring. Weeding is an important agricultural unit operation. Delay and negligence in weeding operation affect the crop yield up to 30 to 60 per cent. Hence present investigation was undertaken with an objective to evaluate performance of manually operated weeder from ergonomics point of view. Present investigation was undertaken in Nagpur, Maharashtra state during the year 2010-2011. For this investigation farmers and farm workers are selected randomly from Nagpur district. Ergonomically parameters like heart rate, oxygen consumption rate and energy expenditure are evaluated while performing the weeding activity. Heart rate readings of form workers show that manually operated weeder is comfortable for farm workers in weeding operation. That’s why increase the efficiency of farm workers and increase the productivity of work. This shows that manually operated weeder is the instrument of drudgery reducing technology for form workers. At each level of moisture content heart rate and energy expenditure rate was greater in traditional method of weeding (khurpi) than weeding by manually operated weeder.

Anshu Radha Aggarwal
DOI : 10.5281/EIIRJ.7117455
Abstract
Certificate
Teacher beliefs can be defined as the influence of teacher training on beliefs of teachers (affective domain) about their capability to make a difference in student learning and to teach all kinds of students. Teachers who are more successful with students should have stronger beliefs in their capabilities. Thus, differences between the two groups of teachers (conventional and distance) were studied using a Teacher Sense of Efficacy Scale developed by Tschannen-Moran and Hoy (2001). The Objective is to compare the influence of teachers training on teacher Beliefs trained through conventional and distance teacher education system. The attempt has been made to study the independent variables in retrospect, for their possible relationships to and the influences on the dependent variables. It is thus examining retrospectively the effects of a naturally occurring event on subsequent outcomes with a view to establishing causal link between them. The nature of the research is Ex-Post facto. Random sample of 25 public schools were selected. Out of which 50 teachers with B.Ed. through Conventional Teacher Education (CTE) and 50 teachers with B.Ed. through Distance Teacher Education (DTE) were selected as a sample of the study. Tools Used Teacher Sense of Efficacy Scale developed by Tschannen-Moran and Hoy (2001). Data were collected from the teaherss The scale has items that tap beliefs about instructional strategies, student engagement, and classroom management. It is concluded the teacher beliefs developed during teachers training were found to be more in teachers trained through conventional system of teacher education as compared to distance system of teacher education

Abstract

When a child opens his eyes in this world, each and every parent’s starts dreaming for the future of their child and they believe, education is a best way of doing it. One very important point need to be highlighted is that most of the students are not able to get through at 10th and 12th board exam classes because of their poor education at primary level, and this is troublesome issue for most of the parents, which also leads to their reluctance in sending their children to school. So it is clear these discussion that poor education system has a direct impact on rural youth as poor education at primary level does not allow the access to higher education and the fraction of youth who get access to higher education remain less competitive. Education in the rural sector still remains largely dependent on the government, though private players are entering the field in large numbers.

DOI : 10.5281/EIIRJ.7117487
Abstract
Certificate
We live in a world that is rapidly progressing in each and every dimension of material life due to the advancements in the field of Information and Communication technology (ICT). As we know ICT is a combination of Information technology and Communications technology. The information aspect has advanced leaps and bounds with the advent of Internet and its varied uses. Same is the case with Communications technology with traditional forms of long distance communication being rapidly displaced by 2G, 3G or even 4G. The world has in fact transformed itself into a global village thanks to developments in ICT. Distances between people, societies and nations have narrowed. Have the human minds also become narrower? Are human values, which are considered the backbone of social well being and peaceful co-existence of the citizens of the globe, deteriorating in some way or other? The paper is an attempt to reflect upon these aspects. The investigators have listed that there are indeed some threats to the value system that have occurred as a result of the advancements in ICT. Suggestions to integrate value enhancement along with ICT development are also incorporated in the paper.

T.S. ELIOT: INDIAN INFLUENCES AND HIS FAITH
Dr. Asha F. Solomon
DOI : 10.5281/EIIRJ.7117495
Abstract
Certificate
Thomas Sterns Eliot was an American by birth, but an Englishman by adoption. He grew to become a naturalized British citizen. Eliot's interest in Indian thought came largely through the influence of his teachers at Harvard. The most important influence in Eliot's Harvard days seems to have been Irving Babbitt whose system of thought was based upon the study of the Pali manuscripts, the earliest authentic Buddhist documents. In The Waste Land there are two well-known examples of Hindu influence both coming at the end of the poem in the section entitled "What the Thunder Said." At the very end we find the triple use of the word ‘shanti’ which is both Vedic in origin and Upanishad in content. It pacifies all sorts of anguish, anxiousness, hesitation, doubt of our head and makes us calm. The Christian scheme seemed the only possible scheme which found a place for values which he had to maintain or perish. . . , the belief, for instance, in holy living and holy dying, in sanctity, chastity, humility, austerity. He expressed the discovery of a faith that would last. He felt that modern life was rife with futility and anarchy. It was his interest in the institution of society that led him to see the importance of communal worship, and the significance of religious practice for all nations, as well as for individual souls. He believed that religious ritual would bring solace to mankind.

It is well clear that learning is a life-long continuous process which goes from Womb to Tomb . So a good teacher or good parents must take care for the learning of his/ her wards since the time of their conception. It is not new concept but almost no one employs it at the pre-natal stage of development. Since the conception of the child in the womb of his/ her mother, learning starts automatically but who cares for it yet everybody know about the positive effects of Garbha Sanskar.
