Dr Arun Ramrao Chavan
DOI : 10.5281/ERJ.7673305
Abstract
Certificate
India is mainly an agricultural country. Agriculture is the most important occupation for most of the Indian families.
In India, agriculture contributes about sixteen percent (16%) of total GDP and ten percent (10%) of total exports.
Over 60 % of India’s land area is arable making it the second largest country in terms of total arable land.
Agricultural products of significant economic value include rice, wheat, potato, tomato, onion, mangoes, sugarcane,
beans, cotton, etc. Agriculture is the backbone of Indian economy. Though, with the growth of other sectors,
the overall share of agriculture on GDP of the country has decreased. Still, Agriculture continues to play a dominant
part in the overall economic scenario of India. Food is essential for life. We depend on agricultural outputs for our
food requirements. India produces large quantity of food grains such as millets, cereals, pulses, etc. A major portion
of the food-stuffs produced is consumed within the country. Our farmers work day and night to feed our population
that counts over 1.21 billion. Besides agriculture with a commercial bias, subsistence agriculture with its emphasis
on the production of food for the cultivator’s family is widespread. Traditionally, Agriculture is followed as the
simplest method of obtaining food for the family.
Seeds, Fertilizers, Pest Control, Extension Services, Kisan Call Centre, Kisan Credit Card, and Information
Technology etc. seem to be improving the agricultural sector.

BNHS : ITS ROLE AS SCIENTIFIC AND CONSERVATION ORGANIZATION DURING THE COLONIAL AND POST - COLONIAL ERA
Dr. Nandita Moitra
DOI : 10.5281/ERJ.7673349
Abstract
Certificate
The Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) founded in 1883 is recognized as one of the leading conservation
research organizations in the world. It is a non -governmental organization It has been collecting data on the
specimens of natural history throughout the Indian sub-continent, through various mammal and bird surveys
conducted throughout the country, it played a key role in disseminating scientific knowledge about them. Various
specimens of flora and fauna were sent to the BNHS for identification and preservation. The movement which was
started for exchanging notes on natural history and deposition of the specimens collected by hunters resulted in one
of the finest collections and was the oldest natural history collection in India and is a part of the national heritage
of India.
The BNHS zealously campaigned for wildlife preservation by writing to forest officers, sportsmen, and the
Government for their opinions, their series of editorials and articles in the journal created awareness about the need
for conservation. They persuaded the authorities to evolve an enlightened policy towards wildlife and provided a
platform to naturalists. After independence ( 1947- 1972 ) it played a pioneering role in spreading of scientific
information and research through its various environmental projects like bird migration project, conservation
campaigns for saving endangered species like the tiger, creating awareness through "Nature Education”
Programmes, support for establishing National parks at Borivali, Bird Sanctuary at Karnala and Mahim..The Non
-Government organization( NGO) is an organization that tries to achieve social or political aims but is not controlled
by the government. NGOs are distinctive as they are voluntary organizations who do not operate for profit. Before
independence, there was little scope for non -government activity particularly in the field of conservation of nature
and natural resources as the emphasis was on hunting, which was the rulers prerogative for entertainment.
However, in the latter half of the 19th century, some NGO's like the BNHS was encouraged by British hunters, and
they flourished due to their patronage. In the field of Natural History, there were two types of organizations, one
was science-oriented, devoted to the setting up of museums, organizing natural history expeditions and collections.
The general objective was the acquisition and dissemination of knowledge.

IMPACT OF COVID 19 ON INDUSTRIAL SECTOR IN INDIA
Dr. Vijay A. Pawar & Mr. Dinesh Patel
DOI : 10.5281/ERJ.7673366
Abstract
Certificate
India’s GDP was decelerating even before COVID pandemic, from 8.3 % in 16-17 to 7.1%, 6.1, and 4.2% in the
next three years. India’s economy posted its steepest contraction on record in the April-June quarter of the 2020-21
fiscal year as the strict lockdown imposed to arrest the spread of COVID infection stalled economic activity, shut
out consumption and investment, and led to job and income losses. The government on 13th May 2020 announced
the stimulus package meant for extending a helping hand to MSMEs, NBFCs, DISCOMs and salary earners. The
aggregate amount involved in this package was Rs. 5.94 lakh crore. Data released by NSO showed GDP in April-
June of 2020-21 slumped 23.9 % compared with a growth of 3.1 % in the previous quarter (Jan-Mar). Tourism and
hospitality contribute approx. 9.2 % to the country’s GDP. The sector consists of a large workforce of approx. 42.7
million. With a lockdown being imposed for less than a month had resulted in the industry facing a loss of USD 22
billion (25 % shrank) and also not the forget leaving 50 million people being laid-off due to less demand for tourism,
being faced with the crisis globally. According to FAITH (Federation Association of Tourism and Hospitality) over
95% MSMEs of 53000 travel agents, 115000 tour operators, 53000 hospitality services and over 5 lakh restaurants
in India are facing the brunt of adequate cash flow in the sector since feb., 2020. Among major economies, India’s
contraction was the sharpest. After declining by 24.4% in the first quarter last year, the economy has registered
growth rates of -7.5%, 0.4%, 1.6%, and 20.1 % in subsequent quarters. This V shaped curve of recovery is testimony
to the strong fundamentals of the economy.

JOURANALISM IN BRITISH ERA WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THE INDIAN SPECTATOR (1884-1885)
Dr. Swapna H. Samel & Mrs. Manasi V. Bhagwat
DOI : 10.5281/ERJ.7673370
Abstract
Certificate
Rise of British Period in India was an outcome of Political disunity among Indian states. Lack of economic
sufficiency, social distinctions and rivalry, faith in out dated practices and non-availability of scientific and rational
approach were the other factors lead to establishment of foreign rule in the country. Initially British traders and
administrators of the British East India Company carefully expanded their field of activities. Early Governors like
William Bentinck, Thomas Munro, Mount Stuart Elphinstone tried to secure support of locals and extended the rule.
They realised the need of spread of education, scientific approach and train people to run administration. Therefore
English education is introduced, Press is started to form and educate public opinion which will be helpful for them
to consolidate the rule. In course of time Indians enlightened with the new scientific education and new language
and literature started writing. Establishment of various press houses at Calcutta and publication of newspapers
mostly weekly’s in English and later in Persian and Bengali brought the freedom of expression forefront. Several
Newspapers started coming up in Bombay... next to Bengal. Along with British Parsi and Hindu publications
emerged and started publishing papers in Gujarati, Marathi and English. Indian Spectator was one well known
weekly started publishing from 1880 and rose to prominence shortly. It has initiated social awakening along with
political in Bombay and other parts of the country. Mr. Behramji M. Malabari an editor of The Indian Spectator
raised the prominent issue of Child marriage and wanted to bring reform in the same by passing of legislation. He
used Spectator as a medium to create awakening among the masses. This paper is an attempt to show how journalism,
introduced by the British proved successful in social and political awakening.

HAMID DALWAI:THE RADICAL MODERNIST
Dr. Dhananjay B.Wankhade
DOI : 10.5281/ERJ.7673374
Abstract
Certificate
Hamid Umar Dalwai was a Muslim Modernist, social reformer, thinker, activist and Marathi language writer in
Maharashtra. In India mingling of religion with politics is always been the part of politics. India had witnessed the
politicization of religion since the British Government. After the Independence various political parties are vying or
Muslim votes by offering various promises. The Muslim leadership’s thought process which prevailed during his
time virtually sought a parallel state for Muslim within India. Hamid Dalwai was one among the few religiously
secular people. He had an independent personality of his own. From time to time, he earnestly appealed to political
parties in India not to make humble appeals to Muslims. According to him, it indirectly fostered emphasis on
communal separatism in Muslims. He believed that religion and politics have been confused amongst Indian
Muslims. He wanted to attack it and expected to separate the two. He used his life, speech and writing for that
purpose. He strove towards a uniform civil code rather than religion specific laws. To banish religion from the public
sphere of politics as Kemal Ataturk had done in Turkey same kind of secular ideology Hamid Dalwai wanted to
implement in India. Hamid Dalwai along with seven women had marched down to the Mantralaya in Mumbai,
demanded today, the issue of triple talaq has gained traction, and with the practice declared illegal by the Supreme
Court in 2019.Dalwai is one of the key figures that spearheaded this struggle. He was a radical Modernist who
appeal to Muslim society that an old-fashioned Muslim society could not compete in the modern world, Muslim
remained backward because they oppose the modernism. He demanded that triple talaq be abolished, uniform civil
code (UCC) be implemented and polygamy be banned". Dalwai’s main interest was with changing the attitudes of
Indian Muslims towards democracy and modernism and the need for reform among Muslims. The analysis and
interpretation of Islam and the politics of Muslim community by Hamid Dalwai was revolutionary. In this sense, he
was the first Modernist, revolutionary social thinker in the Muslim society of Maharashtra.

The NEP 2020 is defining moment for higher education. Effective and time-bound implementation is what will make
it truly path-breaking. The concept of empowerment and autonomy to innovate is one of the key features in NEP
2020 which supports a phasing out strategy from Affiliated Colleges to Autonomous Institutions. The increased
flexibility offered to autonomous institutions also gives hope in curriculum enrichment. It also says that with
appropriate accreditations, autonomous degree granting colleges could evolve into research-intensive or teachingintensive
Universities. In this paper, there is an attempt to give a theoretical analysis of National Education Policy
2020 for higher education.

TOWARDS ATMANIRBHAR SAMAJ: GOA’S UNIFORM CIVIL CODE, A MODEL FOR REST OF INDIA
Dr. Varsha V. Kamat
DOI : 10.5281/ERJ.7673416
Abstract
Certificate
Atmanirbhar or self-reliance engulfs multiple facets of human life and activity and does not rest only at the door of
economics. Social self- reliance or Samajik Atmanirbharata refers to the ability of a community to function with a
level of cohesion, social accountability and mutual dependence - taking decisions, mobilizing resources and building
and maximizing inter-personal capacity to address issues and initiatives for mutual benefits. In a country as diverse
in nature as ours, attaining social self-reliance by retaining our family values and cultural ethos is paramount
towards the creation of a strong and confident India.
The Family Laws of Goa relating to marriage, divorce, adoption and succession are different from the rest of the
country. The Civil Code of Goa, derived largely from the Codigo Civil Portugues (Portuguese Civil Code) of 1867,
based on Code Napoleon, was made applicable to Goa in 1870, underwent a change in 1880, when it incorporated
the special and private usages and customs of the native Hindus, which had been codified and to the extent they were
not against morality and public order. In 1910, the Code underwent further changes in keeping with the Portugal’s
Republican spirit. After Goa’s liberation, vide the Goa, Daman and Diu Administration Act of 1962, the Indian
Parliament maintained all the family laws in force in Goa before its liberation.
Based on Goan experience of uniform Civil Code, this paper expresses an ideal towards self-reliant and harmonious
Indian society and attempts to provide a valuable counterpoint to the modern day emphasis on preserving diversity,
at the cost of unity.

SERVICE LEARNING EXPERIENCE AIDS CRITICAL THINKING THROUGH LEV VYGOTSKY’S SOCIO CULTURAL THEORY
Priti Sivaramakrishnan & Dr. Sybil Thomas
DOI : 10.5281/ERJ.7673633
Abstract
Certificate
Aim of education is to create citizens who are humane, concerned and caring about people at local and global level.
Service learning is a teaching and learning strategy that differs from community service where the provider of the
service (community center) and the recipient of the service (pre service teacher) both benefit from the service
learning experience. Service learning experience results in academic gains and connections of the course to real
life situations. It also results in personal gains and improvement of life skills which help to create civic minded and
socially responsible citizen with an intention to indulge in lifelong engagement. The study also has tried to integrate
Lev Vygotsky theory of socio cultural theory. The integration of service learning with critical thinking is presented
through the two dimension of Lev Vyotsky’s theory of zone of proximal development and more knowledgeable other.
The present study aims to understand the relationship between critical thinking and service learning among pre
service teachers. The sample for the study consisted of 1054 pre service teachers of aided and unaided institutes of
Mumbai. The findings of the study revealed that there existed no relationship between critical thinking and service
learning among pre service teachers.
